March 2012: Hong Kong - Macau Trip Report



We spent 4 days and 3 nights in Hong Kong, with a side day trip in Macau last March. It was a do-it-yourself (DIY) trip and it was a indeed a challenge. Many thanks to Hong Kong thread in PinoyExchange.com, we survived it.

Let me walk you through with our Hong Kong – Macau escapade and let this blog entry be your virtual tour guide.

Macau Primer



Macau is also spelled as Macao and was a former Portuguese colony. It is composed of the Macau Peninsula itself, islands of Taipa and Coloane which connects to Cotai Strip. Majority (around 95%) of Macau’s population is Chinese, while around 2% is Portuguese or mixed Chinese and Portuguese, known as Macanese. The official language in Macau is both Portuguese and Cantonese and for the forex rate, approximately, 1 MOP = 5.20 PHP, but you can always use HKD in Macau having forex rate of 1 HKD = 1.03 MOP.

Hong Kong Primer




Hong Kong is commonly described as “East meets West” because of its Chinese roots having influenced by the British colony. It is composed of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon Peninsula , New Territories and Lantau Island. The population is around 7.03 million with which 95% are of Chinese descent. The official language of Hong Kong is Cantonese and approximately, the forex rate is 1 HKD = 5.30 PHP
